Warm up this winter with ‘Caliente’…

Truly dear friends, besides the obligatory cold, I do adore winter.
Drizzly, foggy afternoons.
Rugging up.
Open fires.
Red wine.
Comfort food.
Spicy food.
I crave Chilli and heat to take away the chills.

It’s also this time of year when I delight in Sunday afternoon expeditions to Adelaide Hills vineyards.
With misty green vistas and frost hazing over the vines.
Can you think of a better way to while away a lazy winter weekend, than delicious wine and equally delicious views and food…?
Neither can I.

With all of the aforementioned in mind, it is with great excitement and pleasure that on Sunday, July 31st as part of the Adelaide Hills Wine Region’s Winter Reds, I am teaming up with my good friends at Howard Vineyard to bring you our Play with Fire feast ‘Caliente’.

A perfect wintery afternoon of live music, open fires and a charcoaled lunch cooked by me of comforting, spicy and fiery delights held in Howard’s incredible Adelaide Hill’s cellar door.
But don’t just take my word for it; I invite you to drool over my menu whilst envisaging yourself there with us, glass of wine in hand enjoying it for yourselves…

 

Starter: 
 Local Olives and Sourdough with local Extra Virgin Olive Oil and house made Italian Dukkah

Entrée: Spanish Tapas
 Free-range Pork Meatballs braised in a Spicy Tomato sauce 
with a Mint and Almond Gremolata
 Serrano Ham and Manchego Croquettes with Chilli Aioli
 White Anchovy and Green Olive Tapenade Toasts

Main: 
  Italian Mixed Grill - Char grilled medium rare Grass-fed steak and Free range Chicken Thigh 
marinated in Rosemary and Thyme, Italian Fennel and Spicy Italian Sausages 
served with a Salsa Rossa
 Saffron, Roasted Tomato and Herb Orzo
 Fennel and Endive salad with Grapefruit and White balsamic vinaigrette

 

 

 

Finished with a local cheese table, it will be truly bellissima!
And I implore you, are there many things in this world more delicious than a traditional, Spanish béchamel-ham Croquette?
Please note: This question is rhetorical… We all know the answer is no.
